Plot Marking

Saturday, May 5, 1-5pm
Bring work gloves and drinking water. If you have them, bring a hammer or mallet, survey/measuring wheel (the kind that rolls as you walk along and
measures distance in feet and inches), 100 ft. tape measure. If you marked plots with us last year, I have a much better strategy this year! If we can get at
least 10-15 people, it should go pretty smoothly and quickly.

**UPDATE**  **Saturday, May 5**
Thanks to our awesome crew of volunteers this afternoon, plot marking is completed!

Does this mean the garden is open? YES! The official opening date was set for the 9th to allow extra time in case of weather delays or other things that might cause plot marking delays. We had great weather and a great crew of help, so no delays. Please do note the following:

You will find your plot marked with a flag at each corner - your 4 flags will either be all white or all red. (NO strings this year.) When you look down the rows of flags, you will see the 3 foot walking paths. If you put up fencing, remember that it must be completely inside your plot borders. Each plot also has a sign post with your name and plot number - remember to keep this somewhere near the edge of your plot all season long.

Mulch and compost (if you ordered it) is not delivered yet, but should be soon. Also, there's no portable toilet yet, but we'll get that delivered soon as well.

The Volunteer Tracking chart is now on the bulletin board in the shed, so be sure to mark your time: "X" for each 15 minutes volunteered. The key to the shed is on a magnet in the mailbox attached to the side of the shed.

You may use the wheelbarrows and garden tools in the shed. Be sure to return them and lock the shed when you are finished.

Have fun getting started! See you out there soon!

Opening Day

Wednesday, May 9
Garden will be open if weather permits and if plot marking was able to happen on schedule. I'll send an email if opening is delayed.

Please remember that the "average last frost date" for our area is May 15. Only cool weather crops should be planted at first.  Don't put out tender plants too early! If something can't take a frost, don't put it out until June 1 (for example, tomatoes and peppers)

Garden Registration

All garden registrations are taken face to face and payment is due at time of registration. These sessions provide an opportunity to meet the Garden Coordinator and other gardeners, review the Contract, and ask questions. No plots will be held without a completed, signed contract and payment of plot fees. You will also be able to order organic compost, mulch, and pest control spray for a very affordable price right along with your registration. The 2012 Contract is available under "POCG Publications" so you can review it ahead of time.

Returning Gardener Registration
:

**Please note that there will be a 2 plot limit per registered gardener this year. The goal of the policy is to allow more people to participate (we had a waiting list last year).

**Contact the Garden Coordinator to arrange a short (10-15 min.) time to meet and get registered. Your registration must be completed before March 25 to reserve the same plot(s) you had last season (or the plot you had in 2010 if you were "rotated" for 2011).

**Note that due to a construction easement for raising the road on the west end of the garden, plots in columns 1 and 2 are no longer available. If you were in those plots last year, we will fit you in elsewhere.

 New Gardener Registration:

**Contact the Garden Coordinator to arrange a short (10-15 min.) time to meet and get registered.

**There is a 1 plot limit for gardeners new to POCG. You will also be matched with a mentor, one of our experienced returning gardeners, to help ensure your success. If you are successful in maintaining your plot your first year, then the following year you may have a 2 plots (if plots are available).
